How do you envision your day-to-day life in this house? Will your home always be full of people, or will it just be you and your spouse? Does everyone need private space? Do you need room for large gatherings? Do you want to showcase your views? These are just some of the questions that need to be addressed before you begin selecting a home plan.
When choosing the log-home plan that’s right for you, looks aren’t everything. Naturally, aesthetics are an important factor, but it’s equally important to make sure your new home is designed to accommodate your family’s needs and preferences. After all, even the most beautiful homes may lose some of its appeal if it’s too small or not configured in a way that meets the owners’ lifestyle.
Here are just a few questions you should ask yourself before choosing a home plan:
• Will we be retiring in this home?
If so, a main-level master suite might be preferable to minimize the amount of time you spend walking up and down stairs.
• Do we plan to do lots of entertaining?
If so, a home plan with large, open living and dining areas might be a good choice. You should also look for plans that offer smooth traffic flow and circulation from room to room.
• Does our home site have great views?
Then of course, having plenty of deck/porch space as well as rooms with ample windows might be a priority. Also consider outdoor living space. If you plan on doing lots of outdoor entertaining you might want to consider a plan with large decks and porches.
